The staff at Cohen Highley LLP are deeply committed to enhancing the quality of life for others.  Our firm has enjoyed a great deal of success in the practice of law and, in return, feels deeply obligated to share this success with the community.  The following is a partial list of involvement in the community by our firm and its employees.

 

United Way Campaign - In 2004, the firm raised over $2,800 for the charity, exceeding our goal of $1,000.  For our 2005 and 2006 campaign, Cohen HighleyLLP employees participated in various events throughout the month of October in order to raise money for this worthwhile charity.

   

Raise the Roof Benefit for SARI - Now in its 5th year, this event presented by Cohen Highley LLP and host Myrddin Croft Equestrian Centre has raised funds in support of SARI Therapeutic Riding through the on-going and openly generous involvement of past attendees, sponsors and donors.  Please join us at this year's benefit (details).

   

Cohen Highley LLP employees organized a team for the 3rd Annual Health and Freedom Scrabble Walk for P.A.C.E. (Positive Action for Conductive Education.)  This event is on October 1, 2005 at 10:00 a.m.  All proceeds go to P.A.C.E. which helps children with physical disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy and other brain injuries to become more functional and independent by improving physical and problem solving capabilities. 

   

Annual Cohen Highley Charity Golf Tournament - Currently in our 15th year of the tournament (details), the firm has raised approximately $125,000 in the last 6 years to support various London based charities including the Robarts Research Institute and our current recipient, Community Living London.  We would like to thank our sponsors and the golfers for their generosity and on-going support.

   
 

Sunshine Golf Classic - Sunshine Dreams for Kids is a charity that is dedicated to fulfilling the dreams of terminally ill and physically disabled children.  Cohen HighleyLLP were proud sponsors of the Sunshine Golf Classic held on Thursday, July 21st, 2005, the funds from which will become part of an Endowment Fund which will continue to benefit children forever. 

   

Tsunami Relief Fundraiser - In January, 2005, we held a fundraiser in the lobby of One London Place for the victims of the tsunami disaster, in which approximately $3,000 was raised.  We wish to thank Sifton Properties and everyone who contributed to this worthwhile cause.

   

Canadian Special Olympics - In 2002, we were proud to sponsor Kelly Roedding, who  competed at the National Summer Games.  Kelly's team won a bronze medal and Kelly won a silver medal.

   

London Museum of Archaeology - Established in 1933, it has a long standing mission to preserve archaeological artefacts and to promote knowledge of regional Native cultures.  We are pleased to provide continued corporate sponsorship to this non-profit organization.

   

Big Sisters of London -  Over the last 3 years, we have raised close to $4000 for the charity.  Jennifer Quick serves on many of the charity's event committees.

   

Leads Employment -  A non-profit organization that assist hard to place individuals to obtain employment.  Lucy Lee serves on the Board of Directors.

   

Youth Opportunities Unlimited - An organization involved in all facets of giving young people a hand in getting started in their first jobs and their career searches.  Brian Phillips serves on the Board of Directors.

   

Fair Rental Policy Organization of Ontario -  Joe Hoffer is a member of the  Legislative Review Committee, Property Tax Committee.

   

Nor'West Optimist Soccer Association - Our firm has been and continues to be a proud sponsor of youth soccer, both in terms of financial support and coaching involvement.

   

London Property Management AssociationJoe Hoffer is a committee member and Paul Cappa is the President of the London Property Management Association and is actively involved with The Federation of Rental-Housing Providers of Ontario, the Greater Toronto Apartment Association and the Ontario Manufactured Housing Association.

   

London District Baseball Association - In addition to the firm's financial support, Russell Raikes coaches the North London Midget 3 level team (boys ages 15 to 18).

   

London Homebuilders' Association - Joe Hoffer  is a member of the Legislative Review Committee regarding the new Condominium Act and regulations.

   

Community Seminars and Forums - Many of our professionals provide continued support to the community through organization and participation in many free legal seminars and through involvement in post-secondary teaching.

   

SARI - A charitable volunteer-based organization which has been providing therapeutic horse riding and driving for children and adults with special needs since 1978.  Vicki Edgar is vice-chair of the executive and, with support from the firm, has raised over $7,500 for the charity.
