Kim was born and raised in London, Ontario. She received her Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at the University of Western Ontario. Kim continued at the University of Western Ontario and obtained her law degree in 2008. While in law school, Kim volunteered at Community Legal Services, the University Legal Clinic. She also coordinated the Pro Bono Students Canada program, a national organization matching law student volunteers with not-for-profit organizations in need of legal research.

Kim was called to the bar in 2009. Kim’s practice, both during her articles and following her call to the bar, has been focused primarily in personal injury litigation. Kim has represented plaintiffs in matters involving occupiers' liability, motor vehicle collisions, accident benefits claims, disability insurance, and historic sexual abuse. She has been involved in the dispute resolution process overseen by the Financial Services Commission of Ontario and she has attended on matters before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Appeal.
