Referral Fees

The Law Society of Upper Canada has approved the payment of referral fees when a matter is referred to another lawyer because of expertise and ability provided that:

(a) the fee is reasonable and does not increase the total amount of the fee charged to the client, and

(b) the client is informed and consents.
